Sploggers are Robbers, Even in Big Canoe!

Dan Elliott, a good friend who also happens to be one of our Big Canoe real estate competitors, has just discovered that a number of articles that he and his wife Karin have been writing on their blog page have been “Splogged”. “Splogging” is a new term to me, but now that I know what it is, I wish I’d never heard it. Dan describes Splogging in detail in his article “Sploggers Stole My Blog!”  Basically it’s when outsiders steal original blog articles from other people’s blog pages and republishes them as their own and take credit for writing them.  Not only do they falsely claim authorship of someone elses’ creativity and hard work, but the original writer can be penalized by Google and other search engines for publishing copied material!  This is a despicable practice being conducted by ingrates who feed off of others’ honest efforts and creativity to compete for search engine indexing.

Although we’re relatively new to the blogging arena, we are working hard and spending a lot of time and money trying to do the “right” things right in an attempt to gain exposure for our our website and our customers on the search engines. We understand that an important requirement to move up in search engine rankings is relevant, original content, original blogs, no repetitious material, and absolutely no plagiarizing. We trust that if we play the game with dedication, consistency and integrity that the system will work fairly for us and for others. What these sploggers are doing is not only unfair, it’s patently dishonest and just as much a criminal act as any other thievery. Unfortunately, the internet is basically unregulated and thus offers a welcome mat for dishonest predators whose sole purpose is to make money by robbing those of us who are competing fairly to best serve our clients and make an honest living.
